Saptari violence, death toll reaches five
Rajbiraj (Saptari), March 10:
The death toll from the Saptari violence occurred last Monday has reached five with one more person succumbing to gunshot injuries today.
The fifth deceased has been identified as Inardev Yadav, 50, of Jamuni Madhepura VDC-1, as informed by Saptari's Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Katuwal. He succumbed to bullet injury he suffered to his stomach in police firing. He was being treated at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Sunsari.
Earlier, Sanjan Mehata, 25, of Maleth VDC-4, Pitambar Mandal,50, of Maleth-4, Ananda Kumar Saha (who was a senior auxiliary health assistant), 35, of Prasawani-4, and Birendra Mahato of Maleth-4 had died from police firing carried out during a clash between the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) cadres and police. The clash ensued as the UDMF cadres gathered at Gajendra Narayan industrial zone to protest against the mass meeting of CPN (UML) held under the party ongoing Mechi-Mahakali campaign.
